Billy Jack (disc 2)

Powerful Mr. Posner would love nothing more than to shut down the ‘hippie’ school on the nearby Indian reservation, and keep the undesirables from the city streets, but because of the reservation he has no authority. But he gets his chance when the daughter of the town’s deputy goes missing (after a beating by her deputy dad) and is suspected of being hidden at the Freedom School. The only thing standing between the town vigilantes and the school is Billy Jack, a half-breed indian who guards the reservation, those who live on it, and Jean Roberts, the school’s headmistress.

‘Billy Jack’ was the largest grossing independent film in history until ‘The Blair Witch’. It remains a landmark independent film that focused on the most emotional themes of the time – anti-establishment, two-sided justice, racial segregation and prejudice, and social ideals. It inspired countless copycats.

Trial of Billy Jack (disc 3)

The record-breaking sequel to ‘Billy Jack’ finds Billy trial and sentenced to prison while the Jean Roberts and her Freedom School flourishes. The school’s utopian oasis encourages everything from ‘yoga’ sports to muckracking journalism, which is making the school powerful enemies. The more the students air scathing exposes on their school television station, the more they turn the narrow-minded townspeople and their powerful business owners and politicians against them.

Billy Jack comes home from prison just as the crisis between the school and the town reaches its peak. Billy’s desire for spiritual growth under the tutilage of his grandfather is interrupted by escalating confrontations that end with the state governor ordering the national guard to surround the school and stop the violence at all costs.

The ‘Trial of Billy Jack’ pioneered the concept of releasing a movie in 1,000 theaters on the same day, and advertising a film on national television, two things that had never happened before. The film made $30 million in its first 30 days, and changed the film industry forever.
